Majuba Power Station Coal Bypass Conveyors

This new system was a fast-track to allow coal supply to the power station after the collapse of Silo 20. This project was named the Eskom Best Project of the Year.

The system included:

• Coal Overland Conveyor ECA22: 1km at 2200T/h (new head end)

• New coal bypass Conveyor CYT1: 420m at 2200T/h

• New surge bin with feeder outlets for the following three conveyors

• New coal bypass Conveyor CYT2: 260m at 750T/h

• New coal bypass Conveyor CYT3: 93m at 750T/h

• New coal bypass Conveyor CYT4: 93m at 750T/h

The structural scope included the design and construction of all conveyor support structures, access walkways and staircases, and transfer points.

The roads scope included the design and construction of a new culvert crossing for the intersection of conveyor CYT1 with an access road. The road profile had to make allowance for a Nicolas trailer. It also included the design and construction of a new access road running adjacent to the bypass conveyor

The storm water scope was the design and construction of vee-drains and storm water piping

Turnkey Contractor including: project management, design and design management, manufacturing, installation and commissioning of the mechanical, structural, electrical, control, instrumentation and civil engineering works for the described scope
