Haul Rope Take-Up
Hydraulic Dampener
Hydraulic dampening system for the gravity take-up arrangement of an aerial ropeway, controlling counterweight oscillation and maintaining stable haul-rope tension.

The dampener interfaces with the gravity take-up via a capstan and ring-gear/pinion drive arrangement. As the take-up weight moves, this drive regulates hydraulic flow, controlling the rate of movement and providing the required dampening effect — while the take-up continues to perform its primary function of maintaining rope tension.
Engineered for stable rope tension.
RULA Bulk Materials Handling designed and developed a hydraulic dampener system for the gravity take-up arrangement of an aerial ropeway, providing controlled movement of the take-up system and improved stability of the haul rope. The dampener is specifically engineered to control and reduce oscillations of the gravity take-up counterweight, assisting in maintaining consistent haul-rope tension while preventing excessive oscillation and uncontrolled movement.
System Components
- Hydraulic dampening system

System Operation
The dampener operates in response to movement of the ropeway’s gravity take-up weight, providing a controlled response to changes in haul-rope tension and reducing undesirable movement of the counterweight.
- Movement of the take-up drives the capstan and ring-gear arrangement, which interfaces with the hydraulic system
- Hydraulic flow is controlled to regulate the rate of movement and provide the required dampening effect
- Tunable through the flow-control arrangement to achieve the required dampening response
- Continues to allow the gravity take-up to perform its primary function of maintaining rope tension
Engineering Features
