Supply, installation and commissioning of two heavy-duty mobile scraper chain feeders reclaiming coal from the stockyard onto the station's existing conveyor system.
RULA provided a comprehensive turnkey solution covering the complete project lifecycle, including:
The feeders incorporate a heavy-duty steel structure and scraper chain arrangement designed to receive bulk material at a low loading level before conveying and elevating the material to the discharge point.
The mobile design provides operational flexibility, allowing the feeders to be repositioned within the coal stockyard as operational requirements change.
Key equipment and features include:
The project included the complete electrical integration required to connect the feeders to the existing Hendrina Power Station infrastructure.
The feeders were equipped with the necessary motors, switchgear, control equipment, protection systems, cabling and interfaces required for safe and reliable operation.
Interlocking with the downstream conveyor system ensures that the feeder automatically stops should the receiving conveyor trip, protecting both the feeder and downstream equipment.
Safety formed an integral part of the feeder design.
The machines incorporate emergency stopping facilities, pull-wire and machine protection systems, start-up warning sirens, operating indication, electrical and mechanical overload protection, lockable isolation and interlocking with downstream equipment.
Maintenance access platforms, stairs, handrails and access points were incorporated to allow safe inspection and maintenance of the equipment.
The discharge systems were engineered to provide controlled transfer of coal from the scraper chain feeder onto the existing conveyor infrastructure.
The discharge chute arrangement provides effective material containment and central loading onto the receiving conveyor while reducing spillage and wear.
Maintenance access was incorporated into the chute arrangement to allow inspection and clearing of potential blockages.
The project also included the associated civil and structural works required for installation of the feeders.
This included site investigation, detailed engineering, foundation and concrete slab design, reinforcement design, construction, testing and the preparation of final as-built documentation.
Following installation, the feeders underwent comprehensive testing and commissioning to verify mechanical, electrical, safety and operational performance.
Performance testing included verification of the required feeder throughput under operating conditions.
RULA also provided operational, maintenance and engineering training to ensure that plant personnel could safely operate and maintain the new equipment.
The project was completed with a comprehensive technical data pack containing operating and maintenance information, drawings, electrical documentation, equipment information, maintenance schedules, spare parts information, quality records and final as-built documentation.
RULA engineers and delivers bulk materials handling systems from initial design through commissioning.
